We were established in 1935 as Firscroft Riding Stables (hence ‘FRS’) on our smallholding at Swancote, just outside the beautiful Shropshire town of Bridgnorth. In 1977 the family business changed direction and we converted the stables into shop premises. Equestrian equipment and clothing soon gave way to quality country clothing, footwear and accessories to meet every budget – from basic agricultural and outdoor work wear to deluxe brands for country sports and leisure, serving the local rural community.
Since then we have grown into a successful retail, trade, and e-commerce business. Our customers not only travel from Shropshire and surrounding counties to our well stock shop, but we ship our quality products far and wide - to thousands of online and mail-order customers. Our small, friendly and dedicated team is passionate about good service and the country way of life - hence our web address, www.bestinthecountry.co.uk!
The late 1990s saw the establishment of our internet retail business. We also started a trade division, supplying outdoor clothing, work wear, industrial clothing, PPE, gloves and healthcare uniforms which does a brisk trade with local authorities, hospitals, schools, care homes, sports clubs, and private business both large and small. In 2007 the business expanded again, taking on large warehouse premises so that we can hold thousands of products in stock, enabling many orders to be shipped the same day.
The secret to our success, we believe, is efficient service, quality products, and great prices. We also enjoy a very loyal client base - mostly people who live, work and play in the country. From what they tell us, it’s our knowledge of country living, working, and pursuits, and our friendly and hard working approach that keeps them coming back.
To mark our 30th Anniversary we have completely revamped and re-launched our website – designed to make shopping with us an easy, safe, and enjoyable experience. We hope you enjoy browsing through the vast array of great products.

Our Business Practice
FRS Countrywear is committed to providing excellent customer service, and we trade in manner which is legal, decent, honest, truthful and fair. We are an accredited retailer of the Internet Shopping is Safe scheme. In order to qualify our website and service is monitored, and our business, VAT and Data Protection registrations are checked. Accreditation by ISIS is assurance of our reliability, security and trustworthiness.
Privacy and Data Protection
As with all shopping websites, we collect personal information from you when you shop online at www.bestinthecountry.co.uk (FRS Countrywear Ltd). We use this information to make your shopping experience as easy and enjoyable as possible. We use it to process your order, inform you of any delays or problems and occasionally to send you information about our special offers and promotions – but only with your permission. We never sell or rent data to third parties.
The information we collect is:
- Your name
- Email address – to confirm your order or let you know about delivery delays, offers etc. We hate spam, we don’t send it, and we do not sell, rent or give lists to third parties to send it.
- Delivery address and billing address.
- Telephone number – we’ll only call if we have a delivery problem, we never cold call.
- Credit card details – we only ask for these when you place an order.
We are Payment Card Industry (PCI) Compliant – this means we adhere to extremely stringent standards on how we hold, store and process card details, and that we have strict network and administrative systems to protect your information. We meet all the security standards VISA and Mastercard require for processing card details.
FRS Countrywear Limited is a registered data user under the Data Protection Act. We will never pass your details on to a third party for marketing purposes. We will however, from time to time, send you details of our own special offers that we think may interest you, but only if you have given us your permission.
There are only two circumstances where we may share some of your data with others:
- With agents (including credit reference agencies, credit card clearing agencies, and fraud prevention and detection agencies) that we use to process the orders you place with us or who assist us in the service we provide to you. Our ethics
Many of our products are manufactured outside of the EU, sometimes in regions that have less stringent laws to protect their workers. We will never knowingly supply any product which is not from an ethically sound source. This means that we will never knowingly trade with a supplier that does not have minimum standards for health, safety and hygiene, wages and benefits, working hours, and freedom of association. Increasing numbers of our products use or are made from Fair Trade materials and organically produced fabrics. Look out for the Fair Trade logo next to the relevant products on our site.
Environmental and Waste Management Policies
FRS Countrywear is an ecommerce / mail-order company and as such we produce catalogues, package our products for shipping, and accumulate packaging waste from goods delivered to us from our suppliers. We are committed to minimising waste and maximising recycling wherever possible. Our commercial waste disposal conforms to industry legal standards. All our major business decisions in the future will take full account of the possible environmental consequences.
