"Whilst training in the early 60's I appreciated the importance of protective clothing that gave flexibility, warmth and protection against the sea and weather.  By the mid 70's I was able to address my dream of enjoying my sport in relative comfort compared to the elements.  The "3-Layer System" was born, as was the possibility to protect sailors from head to toe whether they sailed on a pond or in the southern ocean."

The 3-Layer System

The Musto 3-Layer System is the ultimate design for keeping you warm, dry and comfortable in the field throughout the season.  The system has, of course, been engineered around three key layering pieces consisting of a Base Layer, a Middle Layer and an Outer Layer;

The Outer Layer - The Musto Storm Jacket

The ultimate Outer Layer in the 3-Layer System is the Musto Storm Jacket, new for this season.  The  Storm Jacket is dedicated to providing comfort in the field whilst shooting. New features include, cartridge pockets with a grown over pocker flap design and zipped hand warmer pockets for security, with an up to open directional zip for comfort.  Action back seams and underarm articulation contribute towards the garments essential freedom of movement.

The Musto Storm Jacket  utilises a GORE-TEX® 2 layer fabric similar to those in the Musto sailing range and acts like a second skin.  The world's most durably waterproof and highly breathable fabric available.  Musto would not refer to any fabric with a waterhead of below 3000mm as waterproof.  These GORE-TEX® garments achieve waterheads of 28,000mm and MVP (breathability) of 14,000g/m2.

The Middle Layer

The Musto Quilted Primaloft Jacket and Gilet are low in bulk so as not to restrict freedom of movement and provides sufficient warmth to maintain shooting performance in cold conditions.  The waterproof properties of the wadding gives the garments both stand alone and middle layer versatility, as do the zipped pockets and temperature regulating drawcord hem.

The jacket and gilet utlises Primaloft Synergy, widely regarded as the highest performing, high loft, synthetic insulation available.  Inspired by nature, structurally designed to mimIc down, but in variable or unpredicted conditions where humidity is high and perspiration is expected, Primaloft is the best choice.  It's warmer, drier, softer and more compressible than other insulations.

The Base Layer

The Musto Evolution Merino Shirt and Trousers are constructed from natural fine insulating fibres.  These high performance garments are remarkably thin, have flat lock seams and are deliberately cut long.  As a result they are extremeluy comfortable and non-restrictive as part of the layering system.

Merino Wool is the natural choice for land based sports.  It's highly breathable, delivering exceptional warmth.  The outer surface is hydrophobic, quick wicking and the inner surface is hydrophilic allowing it to absorb a third of its weight  in water without feeling wet or damp.  In addition it's anti-bacterial, naturally odour resistant and anti-allergenic, feeling smooth and extremely comfortable next to the skin.

The Musto Whisper Jacket

 "In cold weather the heart rate has to increase to maintain a core temperature within the body, this leads to a constriction of blood vessels, in particular the ears, feet and hands.  This not only leads to slower reaction times, but also a lessening of peripheral vision.  In studies carried out in 2002 and 2011, performance was seen to decrease by 12% in cold weather, where a temperature of 5°C was seen, and a decrease of 18% where an outside temperature was below freezing to -5°C." Warmth and comfort starts on the inside, it's about the ability to retain warmth generated by the body within the jacket and to temperature manage this micro climate through breathable fabrics.  Comfort inside out - from the shoot lodge to the last drive, from the insulating wadding to the waterproof and breathable shell.

The Musto Whisper Jackets are dedicated to providing comfort in the field when temperatures start to decrease in the colder winter months.  Without compromise on performance for shooting, both the men's and ladies garments resonate a feel of luxury, perfect for shot days and beyond.

The Musto Whisper Jacket incorporates three of the best fabrics available.  The waterproof and breathable element is delivered by a GORE-TEX® 2 layer fabric drop liner.  The worlds most durably waterproof and highly breathable fabric available.  The Primaloft Synergy insulation will keep you warm and comfortable.  The outer shell is a brushed polyester with a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) finish.  Not only does it generate very little abrasion noise, it's very durable and light to compliment the two other performance partner fabrics.

Features include internal Lycra cuffs with a DWR finish which helps to keep wrists warm and dry whilst raising the gun, easy access cartridge pockets with grown on pocket flaps and concealed studs to prevent stock damage.  The guage of the main zip has been increased for ease of use with and without gloves.  The essential freedom of movement is enhanced with articulated sleeves and action back shoulders.  Primaloft doesn't impede movement when shooting due to its high compressability and naturally less bulk compared to 550 fill down, which offers similar warmth.  Primaloft Synergy is also migration resistant as it's a continuous filament, an advantage over down, particularly with gun recoil.
