The Barbour Beaufort Jacket is a mid length waxed cotton Jacket. The style of Barbour coat that is shorter (ideal for equestrian use) is called the Bedale Jacket. The longer version is called the Border Jacket. You can view all three models online and buy at discounted prices.
The Barbour Beaufort should not be confused with the Barbour Classic Beaufort jacket (although it very often is!). The Beaufort jacket (i.e. this product) is constructed from traditional waxed cotton. This tends to have a shinier appearance and is how Barbour jackets have traditionally looked. The Classic Beaufort is constructed from Sylkoil (sometimes called dry wax) which has a matt finish and is more flexible than traditional waxed cotton. Both the standard Beaufort and the Classic Beaufort are cut to the same pattern and have very similar qualities in terms of waterproofness and durability.
If you want a hood for this Barbour jacket, you should choose the 'Barbour Waxed Cotton Hood' in the appropriate colour
Traditional waxed cotton coats do not contain insulation, only a cotton lining. For extra warmth in winter, you can puchase a separate zip in lining. This can either be a zip-in pile lining (sometimes referred to as fur or furry linings!) or a diamond quilted lining. The quilted zip-in linings come in co-ordinating colours to the jackets - when the waistcoat is zipped in, the lining will match the lining of the jacket.
Barbour waxed jackets do require a certain amount of maintenance. If well looked after, jackets have been known to give 30 years and more of good service. You will need Barbour Thornproof Dressing to treat your coat and help maintain it's waterproof qualities. A leaflet detailing full care instructions for cleaning and rewaxing your Barbour are included with every jacket.
